NLAW - Light Anti-Tank Weapon
NLAW (Next Generation Light Anti-tank Weapon) is the first ever single soldier missile system that rapidly knocks out any Main Battle Tank (MBT) with just one shot by striking it from above. The true tank killer for light forces that operate dismounted in all environments including built-up areas.
The NLAW system comprises a high performance and easy to use combat weapon and an innovative and cost effective training system.
The NLAW combat weapon comprises an anti-tank missile sealed within a disposable launch tube. Although the main targets are MBTs and Light Armoured Fighting Vehicles (LAFVs) other targets such as troops in buildings and non-armoured vehicles can also be effectively defeated.
The weapon is intended for deployment with and firing by a single soldier. As the weapon is easy to handle and has a robust design, it can be widely dispersed throughout the military organisation. It can even be fired from confined spaces.
NLAW enters production during 2006 and will be operational from 2007.
