Instrumentation
• On-line control
Saab’s MILES Interface Kit (MIK), enables enhanced training capabilities for your MILES training system. The modern battlefield requires urban warfare skills and a higher degree of multi-national cooperation. Armies using MILES can upgrade their training systems with Saab‘s latest MOUT capabilities. The upgrade allows multi-national forces to conduct collaborative training and preparations prior to and during missions.
The upgrade can be made in three steps. The first involves interfacing training capabilities, such as mines, hand grenades, protective masks, small arms transmitters, etc. The next step covers positional data, time synchronization of events and MOUT capabilities. The third and most extensive upgrade includes “full instrumentation” and gives instructors, real-time, online monitoring capabilities.
Interfacing other training accessories
At the first step, MILES 2000 users move to Saab’s Laser Class 1 SAT and training accessories, gaining the flexibility provided by using products from both contractors. The Saab adapters initiate communication with the MILES 2000 Control Console. Built-in automatic weapons association enables drilling of
many tactical fighting situations.
• Firing capability of a ”killed” player is instantly
disabled
• A tactical weapon can be picked up by a “living”
soldier during battle.
• The system permits the use of classic training
accessories, such as simulators for hand grenades, gasmasks and mines/booby traps.
Time and position upgrade
The second step in upgrading the equipment is to include GPS. GPS is used to record tactical movements and to provide a common time base for all participating players. This upgrade enables all aspects of After Action Reviews (AAR). Events and movements can be wirelessly downloaded for AARs.
MOUT features
The second step enables the Saab MOUT training utility. The indoor positioning system provides players with additional data when inside or adjacent to a building, in situations when signals from GPS satellites are unavailable or unreliable. This upgrade also includes the capability to inflict “casualties” on units
inside buildings.
Full instrumentation and on-line control
The third and most advanced upgrade includes instrumentation features that takes the system a step beyond and gives instructors the ability to conduct online monitoring and control. The primary advantages of instrumented training are real-time tracking of all individual player movements and the capability to influence combat by introducing virtual artillery and minefields, as well as NBC warfare.
Modern, proven and in use
Saab training gear is used by several NATO countries, even in combat zones.
